Group A: GO Weekly

->Our group’s task is to design a creative yet innovative advertisement for one of Curacao’s GO Weekly Magazine. The advertisement will educate and enlighten the citizens of Curacao from all ages on the benefits of recycling and going green.
We are going to contact GO Weekly and ask them if we can post a free half-page or quarter page advertisement in their magazine and we will explain to them how if they allow us to put our ad in their magazine then it will raise awareness amongst the people of Curacao on the benefits of going green and contributing to the recycling efforts that have been started by Thimo and his company. With our persuasive efforts we hope that they will run the advertisement for multiple weeks or better yet it becomes a regular advertisement in the magazine.
->Our advertisement includes:
-A geographical picture of the island of Curacao
-The picture of Curacao is the centerpiece of our advertisement with pictures of possible recycling items encircled around it
-The picture will have the message of GO GREEN!!
Some of the possible reasons to recycle that we brainstormed were:
- Recycling aluminum reduces related air pollution by 95%.
- Recycling aluminum saves 90% of the energy required to make aluminum from scratch.
-The energy saved in recycling one glass bottle will light a 60-watt bulb for 4 hours.
-Glass produced from recycled glass saves up to 32% of the energy, reduces air pollution by 20% and water pollution by 50%.
-The energy saved by recycling one aluminum can will run a TV for 3 hours.
-One recycled glass bottle can save enough energy to run a personal computer for 3 hours
->My involvement was that I was one of the members who came up with the design of the ad, including having the picture of the island of Curacao, with possible recyclable items encircled around it. I also thought of several of the reasons why to recycle in order to include it in our advertisement.

Our group is responsible for persuading the newspaper companies. We compiled a list of 12 Steps to Going Green, the list is as follows:
• Switching of light when leave the room
• Recycling
• Use compact florescent light bulbs
• Use drying racks and clothesline instead of dryer
• Use water bottles instead of bottled water
• Switch of TV and AC when they are not being used
• Use cloth napkins daily instead of paper
• Collect rainwater, and use it to water your houseplants and garden
• Use the dishwasher (it is more efficient then washing the same amount of dished by hand)
• Drive the speed limit, and combine all your errands for the week in one trip
• Use a laptop (they use let power then a PC)
• Use disposable bags
We also wrote out an introduction for the newspaper article. The article is going to be translated into Dutch and the juniors are going to be responsible for the persuasion part of this process.
My personal part in this project was the introduction, and a conclusion type of paragraph will also be written by the time we get back to school.

Hi!
Since there are more group members than tasks in our group, I decided to contribute to 2 sections, as opposed to only one. Therefore, I will be addressing what we can personally do, or as a company what they can do, and simply what can be done at home; such as having special bins for cans/paper, or that offices don’t have paper cups, but endorse that people bring in their own coffee mugs.
Also, I will be contributing to the section where we try to convince and persuade people of why they should recycle and care for environment. This will be done by mentioning the health of our global planet, the effects in the long run, as well as those that are already taking place. Lastly, I will also be mentioning how easy it is to help our environment, and that it isn’t difficult to contribute to this global issue, that can potentially become a disaster.

Rough Draft of Team G’s G4 Ad

Radio Active 104.5

Our group, consisting of the Juniors Karim, Sahil, Jaydev, Ulysses and Harshita, and the Seniors Kanchan, Luke, Jose, Ling, Jonathan and myself is planning a week-long campaign in Radio Active 104.5, with the theme “Curaçao is going green” or “Korsòu e ta bai berde” in Papiamentu (this last bit has not been confirmed by our Papiamentu-person (Ulysses)).
Each day throughout one week, a different topic will be addressed by the RJ, and a few helpful tips about how people can go green and help the environment will be provided. The advertisement will be broadcast in Papiamentu to reach a larger audience, and one of our group members, Ulysses, will be doing the translations.
After three meetings taking place on Friday and Monday, the following information and ideas were compiled. Another meeting took place today, the results of which will be the final draft.
Ideas we came up with while brainstorming included:
• Carpools
• Fill tires regularly
• Change mufflers
• Print double-sided papers
• Turn off equipment
o Remove chargers in time
o Lights
o TV or Radio
• Don’t leave taps dripping
• Communicate via email
• Use Flourescent lightbulbs
• Less usage of plastic bag
o Use more paper bags & reusable bags
• Throw away trash properly
o Don’t throw in
 sea
 beaches
 Mondi(jungle and wild areas)
Rough Draft of the weekly segments, which will be structured as follows:
Monday: Cars
• Carpools (share car to work, or for when the kids are driven to school)
• Muffler change
• Turn car off when not in use
• Use the bus or a train rather than your car
• Reduce usage of air conditioners (mention that it takes more gas as well, which is expensive)
Tuesday: Paper
• Print/Use both sides of paper
• Use email more than paper
• Use scrap paper/ reuse paper
Wednesday: Equipment
• Remove chargers when appliance are charged and don’t charge for long hours
• Turn off appliance when not in use
• Use fluorescent lightbulbs
Thursday: Disposing Trash
• When going to the beach, don’t throw trash in the beach or in the sea
• Don’t throw trash in mondi (jungle areas)
• Hold on to your trash till you can dispose it off properly
• Don’t throw trash out of your cars
• Maybe mention the need for more trash bins in public? (or suggest that shop owners place one outside so that the area around their shop remains clean?)
Friday: Plastic Bags
• Less use of plastic bags (reuse them for sth. else)
• More use of reusable bags and paper bags
• RECYCLING?
Saturday: Water
• Drink less bottled water
• Use tap water
Sunday: Best of Green Ideas
• Change Mufflers

• Buy local fruit and vegetables, or even try growing your own (decrease meat consumption)
If the campaign is not accepted by Radio Active, we are also planning a 30-second advertisement that would a more condensed version of our week-long campaign.
This is only a very rough draft:
Curacao is going green and we need your help…. Be a responsible citizen of Curacao and the world: repair the broken mufflers of your car because they release toxic fumes into the air and harm the Earth and the people around you. Turn off television and lights (electronic appliances) when not in use. Reduce using plastic bags when going to supermarkets. Follow these suggestions and help Curacao to go green.

I was involved in the research process, helping with the formulation of ideas and coming up with helpful tips for the people of Curacao. Things will be finalized today.

I will be explaining the causes and effects of global warming, and how much of a threat it has become to the wellbeing of our planet.
